President’s Message
“See the Version of Yourself Yet to Be Discovered “
Miyazaki International University was founded in 1994 as a liberal arts institution with an international outlook, rooted in the educational philosophy of Respect and Diligence, the university’s founding spirit. In 2014, the Faculty of Education was established to focus on the training of teachers and childcare professionals.
At the heart of our educational philosophy is the aspiration to create a peaceful world where all individuals live in mutual respect. Respect encompasses honoring human dignity, practicing self-discipline, and cultivating the empathy to see from others’ perspectives. Diligence represents our sincere commitment to thoughtful action and growth. Together, these values form the foundation for character development and are more vital today than ever before.
We now live in an era of VUCA—Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity—where rapid technological advancements and globalization challenge conventional thinking. As we navigate a world with no fixed answers, the capacity to think critically and act independently becomes essential. For the past 30 years, Miyazaki International University has championed liberal arts education and the cultivation of critical thinking to meet these demands.
A liberal arts education nurtures not only subject-specific knowledge but also broad-mindedness and the capacity to see from diverse viewpoints. Critical thinking sharpens our ability to sift through the flood of information, reason logically, and express ourselves with clarity. These are the very skills needed to forge ahead in these unpredictable times.
Drawing on three decades of educational practice and research, we offer an environment that enables every student to grow into a person capable of shaping their own future.
On our global campus—home to students, faculty, and staff from over 20 countries—we encourage you to experience and embrace cultural diversity. It is through such encounters that students rediscover the joy of learning and uncover new facets of themselves. In the process of meeting this “new you,” we invite you to reflect on the questions: How can I contribute to society? What is uniquely mine to offer? What can I do because of who I am? Always from the perspective of acting for others and with others.
It is a pleasure and privilege to welcome you to Miyazaki International University. I hold close to my heart the words: “Be joyful always. Pray continually. Give thanks in all circumstances.” (The Bible). My hope is that your student life will be rich with joy as you stand before Meikyoan overlooking Kiyotake. While you may encounter both triumphs and trials, I encourage you to live with gratitude in all seasons.
Our dedicated faculty and staff are committed to supporting your journey—so that your time at MIU becomes a lasting source of strength and meaning, and equips you to make a valuable contribution to society.
We invite you to take flight—explore new paths, discover your potential, and connect with the world and your community.

Miyazaki International University Globalization Promotion Policy 2017
Miyazaki International University (hereafter referred to as “the University”) was founded in 1994 as a liberal arts university with a School of Comparative Culture, which changed its name to the School of International Liberal Arts (ILA) in 2006, and a Department of Comparative Culture. Since its founding the University has offered students liberal arts education in English that fosters the idea of creating multicultural, interdependent societies by placing importance on understanding of both one’s own culture and those of other nations, practicing critical thinking skills to address pressing global issues, and mastering English as an international language.
With the establishment of the School of Education (EDU) and the Department of Childhood Education in 2014, the University has grown into an institution with two Schools and Departments. Based on the University’s educational objective of providing a program of higher education in the liberal arts for the purpose of developing individuals who will contribute to international society (Article 1.1 of the University Rules), the School of Education also develops individuals who can play meaningful roles in an increasingly globalized society by equipping them with educational expertise built upon a broad range of knowledge.
The University hereby declares that it will continue to implement plans that serve to maintain and promote global education in every aspect and, as part of this effort, has established concrete numerical goals in the following areas. The University will continue to make sincere efforts to maintain and achieve these goals.
Maintenance and Promotion of a Global Educational Environment
1 In order to sustain a global educational environment, the University sets the following institutional goals for percentage of international faculty members: 55% (or higher) of the University faculty and 75% (or higher) of the faculty of the School of International Liberal Arts.
Promotion of Study Abroad
2 In order to promote study abroad, the University sets an annual participation rate of 15% (or higher) of all students (ILA and Education combined) as an institutional goal.
Promotion of Foreign Language Education
3 In order to promote the mastery of English as an international language, the University sets the following institutional goals for students by the time of graduation: TOEIC 700 (or higher) for all students, and for students in ILA, TOEIC 800 (or higher) for 30% (or higher) of students, and TOEIC 900 (or higher) for 10% (or higher) of students. In order to achieve the above goals, the University will make efforts to further improve its language education.
International Student Recruitment
4 In Japan, the 18-year-old population, which comprises the highest number of students going on to university, is rapidly decreasing. Under these circumstances, it is necessary to strategically recruit excellent international students in order to maintain and enhance the education and research conducted by the University.
In addition, because the University is committed to the development of global human resources, recruiting diverse international students, and providing opportunities for international and Japanese students to study together and interact promotes the internationalization and diversity of our campus, and contributes to the development of Japanese students as global human resources.
Based on the above, the University will actively recruit international students with an annual admission target of approximately 20 students.
