4 specialized courses

Upon entering the program, students can choose from four different courses to study with an eye toward the future.

In the first year, students learn English and the basic knowledge in each course required to lay the foundation for four years of study at MIU, as well as how to study at a university and how to think as a global citizen.

In the second semester of the second year, students are required to participate in a study abroad program. Students study abroad at an English-speaking university (a separate program is offered to students in the English Education course) to improve their language skills, communication skills, and cross-cultural understanding through hands-on experience.

In the third and fourth years, students engage in specialized studies in each course, acquiring knowledge that will contribute to the achievement of the SDGs and gaining practical experience in their field through internships in a variety of fields and businesses and practical training in education, thereby developing the skills and knowledge they need to prepare themselves to enter the real world. Students also write a graduation thesis, which is the culmination of their four years of study.

    Deepen your knowledge in your area of expertise and prepare a graduation thesis in English.

Global Liberal Arts
Aiming to foster human resources who can contribute to the achievement of SDGs with a basis in the liberal arts.

After a broad study of the basic liberal arts, students choose their own specific field of study from the humanities and social sciences. Students will hone their ability to derive the best viable solutions to problems occurring in the world through diverse perspectives and flexible thinking.

Recommended for those who

  • Want to learn solely in English. Want to use English to play an active role in the world in the future.
  • Want to study diverse subjects and broaden their future options.

POINT

  • Students can acquire English skills because classes in various fields are conducted in English.
  • Students can explore and deepen their interests by studying a variety of academic fields. Students will acquire broad perspectives that empower them to look at things from multiple viewpoints across a range of academic fields.

Introduction to Psychology

Psychology is the science that explores how we think, feel, and act. Students will learn the basic principles and research methods of psychology, as well as topics such as the psychology of learning, the psychology of human nature, and social psychology.

International Social Issues

Explore the nature of inequality, where it comes from, and how it affects people’s lives. Students will learn about the inequalities that exist in a globalized society, taking up topics such as race/ethnicity, gender, economics, and crime.

International Business Management
Aiming to foster individuals who can manage companies and society from global perspectives.

The program is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in English and critical thinking skills, with an emphasis on business theory and practical skills that are immediately applicable in the business world, through PBL (Project Based Learning) education.

Recommended for those who

  • Want to acquire business management knowledge, interpersonal skills, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Want to manage companies and society from global perspectives.

POINT

  • In the first and second years, students study business mainly in Japanese, and in the third and fourth years, they study business in English, so they can acquire knowledge and English skills.
  • Acquire business theory and practical skills that will be immediately effective in the field of business.

Marketing

Focusing on customer creation in an ever-changing market environment, students will learn how to tackle and solve real-world marketing challenges faced by companies.

Introduction to Management Strategies

Management strategy is important for a company to respond to changes in the environment and to sustain its growth and existence. This course will teach what management strategy is and the role of management strategy in a company.

Hospitality and Tourism Management
Aiming to become an active player in the hospitality and tourism industry beyond national borders.

Students will acquire specialized knowledge that will enable them to play active roles in the hospitality and tourism industry, equipped with English language skills that can be used in the international community. Students will also take courses in business management to acquire knowledge and perspectives in management and business.
In the third year, students can gain practical experience through internships.

  • Want to work in the hospitality and tourism industry.
  • Want to develop skills enabling them to be active both domestically and internationally, regardless of location.

Event Planning and Marketing

Students will learn about event planning and management in the hospitality and tourism industry, including weddings, banquets, and international conferences. They will also be introduced to marketing strategies in the tourism industry.

SDGs in Tourism

Learn about the tourism industry and deepen your knowledge of what the SDGs are; look at what the SDGs are and how they affect the long-term vision of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

English Education
Aiming to foster English teachers with a global perspective and advanced English language skills.

This course is designed to cultivate junior high school or high school English teachers. As in the other tracks, most courses other than those related to the teaching profession are taught in English, so students can experience real-life English on a daily basis.

  • Want to become an English teacher.
  • Want to be a teacher who can learn and teach real-life English.

POINT

  • Courses other than those related to the teaching profession will be offered in English.
  • Preparation for the teacher employment examination is provided outside of class, and overseas training is a special program that allows students to study English education overseas.

PICK UP

Literary Studies for English Learning

Acquire the literary knowledge and reading instructional skills necessary for elementary and middle school English teachers. Using popular literary works and picture books as teaching materials, students will consider effective questions to help students understand the text.

ICT in Education

Educational settings require the integration of verbal communication skills and the effective use of audio/visual media. Students will enhance their communication skills and learn how to effectively use diverse types of equipment.
