Vu Van Khoa

Hi everyone, my name is Vu Van Khoa. I am also known in my college by the English name “Tommy”. I am currently studying at Miyazaki International College (MIC) which is a Liberal Arts college in Japan. I did not come to Japan for studying specifically but after a few years of experiencing life here, I am now happy and enjoying this traditionally beautiful and peaceful country.

I had studied in a Japanese language school for one and a half years, so it seems a bit odd that I chose a Japanese college with an English environment. However, one of my dreams is to become a successful businessman, therefore I decided to get my college education in English because I believe it will be more useful for me in the future. Coming to MIC, however, does not mean I stopped studying Japanese. My other dream is to become a polyglot so I continue learning both English and Japanese at the same time. At MIC, I have opportunities to practice both languages due to the diversity of the teachers and professors who came from all over the world, and interaction with my Japanese friends.

Most of the classes are taught in English but MIC also offers several Japanese, Korean, and Chinese language courses. Liberal Arts education does not focus on any on field, so I am free to choose what I want to learn. MIC’s goal is to help students improve their critical thinking and develop advanced comprehensive skills by studying many subjects in many fields. At first, I was a bit overwhelmed by this completely new and different environment, but the good new friends I have made have helped me to overcome and get used to it. Moreover, people in Miyazaki are very nice, with delightful and welcoming dispositions. If you are interested and looking for an environment like the one I describe above, take the chance and try it. I look forward to seeing you in MIC someday. Good luck!!
