As we enter a full-fledged age of generative AI, amid growing uncertainty surrounding the global environment, international society and the economy, I believe that two qualities are becoming increasingly important: literacy, the ability to understand and use information properly, and competency, the ability to think, judge, and collaborate with others in addressing real-world challenges. Liberal arts education exists to bridge these two. In both communities and businesses, we face many challenges that cannot be resolved in simple terms. That is why I hope students through the diverse and international learning environment of this university, will develop the ability to see issues from multiple perspectives, think deeply, express themselves clearly and connect thought to action. I would be grateful to support them even in a small way in that journey.
