34 Charter Members Establish New Miyazaki International University Lions Club!
6月8日（日）、宮崎県知事をはじめ、九州各地から約100名のライオンズクラブ国際協会の現・元国際および地域リーダー、ガバナー等お越しいただき、25名の宮崎国際大学ライオンズクラブのメンバーと共に、チャーターナイト祝賀会を開催し、九州で初めて設立された大学生ライオンズクラブとしての正式な認証を祝い合いました。このような大学生主体のクラブは「キャンパス・ライオンズクラブ」として知られており、ライオンズクラブ国際協会が推進する地域奉仕活動において、次世代のリーダーとして重要な役割を担うことが期待されています。
On Sunday, June 8, approximately 100 members from all over Kyushu, including present and former international and regional leaders and governors of the Lions Club International organization, joined 25 of the members of the Miyazaki International University Lions Club in the Charter Night celebration to honor its official charter as the first university student Lions Club established in Kyushu and the seventh such club in Japan. Known as “Campus Lions Clubs”, these university student-led clubs are expected to play significant roles as the next-generation leaders in the community service initiatives promoted and implemented by Lions Club International.
宮崎国際大学ライオンズクラブのメンバーにとって、スポンサーである宮崎ライオンズクラブおよび宮崎ひむかライオンズクラブのベテラン会員との間で、今後長く続くネットワークや関係を築く可能性は非常に大きく、それらは学生たちの将来のキャリア選択にも大きな影響を与えることでしょう。スポンサークラブおよびライオンズネットワーク全体は、宮崎国際大学ライオンズクラブの活動を積極的に支援する姿勢を示しており、大学としても、このクラブの今後の活躍と、学生たちによる新たな地域貢献の伝統の始まりを心から楽しみにしています。
現在35人（7月から45人）のメンバーで構成する宮崎国際大学ライオンズクラブ初代会長である桂原大和さんは、宮崎国際大学ライオンズクラブの留学生と日本人学生による多様な構成が、宮崎国際大学コミュニティのグローバルかつ包摂的な性質を体現していると述べました。そして現在すでに、「こども食堂」や地域清掃活動といった地域貢献活動の実施が計画されており、「We Serve（われわれは奉仕する）」というライオンズクラブのモットーの精神のもとでの活動が期待されています。
For the members of the Miyazaki International University Lions Club, the potential for developing lasting networks and relationships with the veteran members of the sponsoring Miyazaki and Himuka Lions Clubs is not only vast, but will certainly be pivotal in determining some of the students’ career paths. Sponsor Clubs and the overall Lions Network has expressed commitment in supporting the activities of MIU’s Lions Club, and the University looks forward with anticipation to its success and the genesis of a new tradition of community service amongst our students.
Currently comprised of 35 members (45 members from July), the MIU Lions Club’s first President, Hayato Katsuhara, stated that the MIU Club membership of international and Japanese students emulates the global and inclusive nature of the Miyazaki International University community, and plans are already underway to initiate local activities, such as Kodomo Shokodo and community cleanup events in the spirit of the Lions Club motto, “WE SERVE”.
